B Lab Switzerland is the Swiss branch of a global non-profit organisation that supports a community of people using business as a force for good.
A historic global culture shift is underway to harness the power of business to help address society’s greatest challenges. B Lab envisions a world where businesses have environmental preservation and social well-being at their core and manage their impacts. We believe that the business community can be part of the solution to global problems like wealth inequality, climate change, and social unrest.
This requires redefining the role businesses hold in society: businesses should compete not to be the best in the world, but the best for the world.
We aim to accelerate this shift.
Our Activities
At B Lab, we help and support the communities of people and businesses to improve their social and environmental impacts.
We run global activities such as the B Corporation certification process, recognizing credible businesses that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance.
We provide the necessary tools for businesses to measure and improve their impact (ESG rating) such as the B Impact Assessment. Finally, we run regional engagement programs to onboard new businesses in our movement.
B Lab delivers the B Corp Certification to companies that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, legal accountability and public transparency.
The B Impact Assessment (BIA) is a tool to assess a company’s overall social and environmental performance (ESG rating). It does so by measuring the impact of a business on all stakeholders through an online, easy to use platform. The BIA is free and confidential.
After completing the BIA and earning at least the minimum score, companies can be recognized for their performance by applying to become a a Certified B Corporation.
The Swiss Sustainability B_enchmark is the first national benchmark assessing business contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It allows companies to get a quick assessment of their sustainability performance, understand their impact and to compare their performance to other Swiss businesses.
Impact measurement supports businesses in decision-making and in turn enhances overall performance.
We provide knowledge and methods to professionals who want to lead their organization to measure what matters and learn the pathways to the B Corp Certification.
The B Academy program supports research and teach impact measurement methods and inclusive economic pathway in universities and professional schools. Targeting students to master the tools and economics vision towards a shared and durable economy.
Advocacy for legal innovation
We work with policy makers and advocate for legal innovation, from legal structures such as the Benefit Corporation to innovative instruments and incentives that support systemic changes.
